Hi LOVELY, I’m Sam
And you, as a busy (but still lovely!) lady are here with a deep desire for MORE time and MORE energy for yourself. I love that you are here seeking this, and I know that I can support you with this.
But first, let me introduce myself properly. I’m Samantha Dhu
I’m a Mama, Coach, Speaker, Psychotherapist & Small Business Owner.
I support modern-day Mamas juggling many roles to go from overwhelmed and stuck to energised and aligned.
I believe that you are important, that you matter and that I can support you to get what you need.
I also believe that:
A fulfilled & happy Mama equals content & happy children (and loved up partners.)
While you can’t do it all without having to do it all (and enjoying very little) you can learn to carve out space and energy for your emotional health.
Soulful self-care is about the relationship you have with yourself.
There is nothing wrong with you. You are NOT failing. And it is possible to talk about self-care without adding a layer of guilt/shame to the process.
The idea of perfect balance is unrealistic and unhelpful when it comes to juggling mum/work life.
Ultimately, I believe your needs are important, and you shouldn’t need a permission slip to focus on yourself, but I’m happy to write you one!
What Brings Me Here?
In my 20’s I became a new grad Social Worker. Most days were hectic, stressful and tough (yet so rewarding.) I loved my job but felt stressed and overwhelmed a lot of the time. There are super high burnout rates in the Social Work industry. One could say that I had to become an expert in self-care to survive. So over time, I trained as a Psychotherapist and learnt a lot about myself and a whole host of psychological strategies around self-care and stress management. I dove deep into my inner work and learned how to take care of myself so that I could continue to help others. The days were still hectic, but I understood how to care for myself.
Fast forward ten years and now I’m a small business owner and counsellor in private practice as well as the mama of a gorgeous bubbly two (almost three!) year old who keeps me on my toes. Every day I'm grateful that I get to do the work I love to do on my terms. But how I practice self-care as a small business owner also juggling motherhood is different from how I practised it as an employee without a family.
And I would be lying if I didn’t say that juggling business and motherhood hasn’t at times got me overwhelmed! Am I perfect? Absolutely not. There is no perfect way to juggle all these roles as women and to take care of our own needs. Each day brings new challenges, but it’s been my combination of experience and skills that have allowed me to grow and become better at flexing my ‘self-care muscle’, and I’m now incredibly dedicated to serving women like you who also require these tools within their life.
The Personal Bits:
When I’m not running my business, and doing the work I love, I’m busy running around after my fiercely headstrong and fun-loving toddler (teaching her to be assertive has clearly backfired!)
Before I became a mum, I was a bit addicted to travel – both are good for the soul. I am a fan of solo travel for personal-development and have travelled to over ten countries solo. I have also travelled extensively with my husband (but in all honesty am yet to be a huge fan of travelling with a toddler!)
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
My coaching practice is shaped by many years of Postgraduate training including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) training in the UK, extensive Gestalt training in Perth, Family therapy training in Melbourne, as well as my four years of undergraduate training at Curtin University.
Psychological Training: Post Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Southampton University. 2014
Undergraduate Degree: Bachelor of Social Work, Curtin University, 2004
Professional Membership: AASW (Accredited Mental Health)
I invite you to step away from the “hustle” to reflect inwards.
What I know for sure is that when you do the inner work, there are ripples in all areas of your life. AND as you grow so will your business!
This is where I come in as your Coach:
I am for you if you are ambitious, highly intelligent and often slightly perfectionistic. You are reflective and curious and have an interest in all things self-development.
You understand that looking after yourself is essential but often get stuck in old patterns of overworking and putting everyone else first.
